According to DiverNet.com, Okaloosa County, Florida, is purchasing the ship named SS United States to turn it into the world’s largest artificial reef.
The gigantic ship was designed by William Francis Gibbs and built-in 1950. Its maiden voyage was on July 3, 1952.
The USS United States will be laid to rest near the USS Oriskany aircraft carrier, close to Pensacola, Florida. The ship will be sunken in an upright position to make for a better diving experience.
